my thoughts
and notes on the CD:
Recorded
over a three-year period, there's all sorts of different guitar
sounds I was experimenting with. I often panned the rhythm guitars
to the right and the bass to the left, in the same way a lot of
60s albums were recorded, including music by the Beach Boys and
Beatles. I just love that true stereo separation in rock music.
Musically, this album is influenced mainly by the late 80s/early 90s Mammoth Records-era alternative sound, and some newer stuff, too like Jets To Brazil, The Stereo, Third Eye Blind, The Get Set, etc. I was just going for the basic guitar/bass/drums/vocals sound with the occasional piano occurance. Sometimes I get so caught up in weird sounds and strange synthesizer stuff that I forget about the basic rock formula, which is what I listened to before discovering any other types of music.
I dig these songs... I like the lyrics (always from the heart), I like the melodies, I like the 80s rock influence... it's a fun record with some neurotic lyrical content. Hope you dig.
